Dell Inspiron 1420n (PP26L) Palmrest Touchpad Removal Tutorial


In this Dell laptop tutorial we are going to show you how to install and replace the Palmrest Touchpad on your Dell Inspiron 1420n laptop.   • 1 x small phillips head screwdriver
  • 1 x small flat head screwdriver
  • 1 x plastic scribe (optional)

Installation and Removal Instructions
Dell Inspiron 1420n Palmrest Touchpad

Slide the 2 battery latches towards the outside of the laptop.

Step 1

  • Slide the 2 battery latches towards the outside of the laptop.
  • Slide the battery out.
Loosen the 2 retaining screws.

Step 2

  • Loosen the 2 retaining screws.
  • Lift the hard drive door away form the laptop.
Loosen the 2 retaining screws. Lift the hard drive door away form the laptop.
Using the black tape, lift the hard drive and caddy out of the laptop.

Step 3

  • Using the black tape, lift the hard drive and caddy out of the laptop.
Loosen the 3 retaining screws.

Step 4

  • Loosen the 3 retaining screws.
  • Lift the memory door away form the laptop.
Loosen the 3 retaining screws. Lift the memory door away form the laptop.
Loosen the 3 retaining screws.

Step 5

  • Loosen the 3 retaining screws.
  • Remove the CPU processor door.
Loosen the 3 retaining screws. Remove the CPU processor door.
Remove the (2) 2.5mm x 8mm hinge screws on the bottom of the laptop.

Step 6

  • Remove the (2) 2.5mm x 8mm hinge screws on the bottom of the laptop.
  • Remove the (2) 2.5mm x 8mm hinge screws on the back of the laptop.
Remove the (2) 2.5mm x 8mm hinge screws on the bottom of the laptop. Remove the (2) 2.5mm x 8mm hinge screws on the back of the laptop.
Remove the (13) 2.5mm x 8mm bottom base screws.

Step 7

  • Remove the (13) 2.5mm x 8mm bottom base screws.
Remove the (3) 2mm x 3mm bottom base screws.

Step 8

  • Remove the (3) 2mm x 3mm bottom base screws.
  • Remove the 2.5mm x 5mm bottom base screw.
Remove the (3) 2mm x 3mm bottom base screws. Remove the 2.5mm x 5mm bottom base screw.
Turn the laptop over an open it up.

Step 9

  • Turn the laptop over an open it up.
  • Using a flat head screw driver pry up the power button cover starting on the right side and work your way to the left.

Unscrew the (2) 2mm x 3mm screws.

Step 10

  • Unscrew the (2) 2mm x 3mm screws.
  • Carefully lift the keyboard up and position it above the power button.
Carefully pivot up the blue latch on the keyboard cable connector and slide the cable out.

Step 11

  • Carefully pivot up the blue latch on the keyboard cable connector and slide the cable out.
Remove the left and right hinge covers.

Step 12

  • Remove the left and right hinge covers.
Unplug the WLAN antenna cables.

Step 13

  • Unplug the WLAN antenna cables.
  • Unplug the WWAN antenna cables

Remove the 2mm x 3mm screw on the media button circuit board.

Step 14

  • Remove the 2mm x 3mm screw on the media button circuit board.
  • Loosen the media button circuit board and remove the antenna cables from under it.
Remove the 2mm x 3mm screw on the media button circuit board. Loosen the media button circuit board and remove the antenna cables from under it.
Unplug the LCD cable.

Step 15

  • Unplug the LCD cable.
  • Lift the LCD display assembly away from the laptop.
Remove the (3) 2.5mm x 5mm top palmrest screws.

Step 16

  • Remove the (3) 2.5mm x 5mm top palmrest screws.
  • Unplug the palmrest cables.
Remove the (3) 2.5mm x 5mm top palmrest screws. Unplug the palmrest cables.
Remove the palmrest from the laptop base.

Step 17

  • Remove the palmrest from the laptop base.
