Dell XPS 12-9Q34 (P20S002) Keyboard Removal and Installation


In this Dell laptop tutorial we are going to show you how to install and replace the Keyboard on your XPS 12 (9Q34) laptop.   • 1 x small phillips head screwdriver
  • 1 x T5 Torx screwdriver
  • 1 x small plastic scribe

Installation and Removal Instructions
XPS 12 (9Q34) Keyboard

Open and remove the bottom door.

Step 1

  • Open and remove the bottom door.
  • Remove the screw (1 x M2 x 8mm).
Open and remove the bottom door.Remove the screw (1 x M2 x 8mm).
Remove the screws (10 x 2x3mm T5 torx).

Step 2

  • Remove the screws (10 x 2x3mm T5 torx).
  • Remove the Bottom Base.
Remove the screws (10 x 2x3mm T5 torx).Remove the Bottom Base.
Unplug the battery cable.

Step 3

  • Unplug the battery cable.
  • Remove the screws (8 x M2 x 3mm).
  • Remove the Battery.
Unplug the battery cable.Remove the screws (8 x M2 x 3mm).Remove the Battery.
Remove the plastic cover over the mSATA SSD and WLAN cards.

Step 4

  • Remove the plastic cover over the mSATA SSD and WLAN cards.
Remove the screw (2 x M2 x 3mm).

Step 5

  • Remove the screw (2 x M2 x 3mm).
  • Remove the mSATA Solid State Drive.
Remove the screw (2 x M2 x 3mm).Remove the mSATA Solid State Drive.
Unplug the antenna cables.

Step 6

  • Unplug the antenna cables.
  • Remove the screw (1 x M2 x 3mm).
  • Remove the wireless WLAN Card.
Unplug the antenna cables.Remove the screw (1 x M2 x 3mm).Remove the wireless WLAN Card.
Unplug & loosen the daughter board cable.

Step 7

  • Unplug & loosen the daughter board cable.
Unplug the CMOS battery.

Step 8

  • Unplug the CMOS battery.
  • Remove the CMOS battery.
Unplug the CMOS battery.Remove the CMOS battery.
Loosen the heatsink screws (cannot be removed).

Step 9

  • Loosen the heatsink screws (cannot be removed).
  • Remove the Heatsink.
Loosen the heatsink screws (cannot be removed).Remove the Heatsink.
Unplug the fan cable.

Step 10

Unplug the fan cable.Remove the screws (2 x M2 x 3mm).Remove the Cooling Fan.
Unplug the speaker cable.

Step 11

  • Unplug the speaker cable.
Remove the screws (2 x M2 x 3mm).

Step 12

  • Remove the screws (2 x M2 x 3mm).
  • Remove the circuit board.
Remove the screws (2 x M2 x 3mm).Remove the circuit board.
Unplug the motherboard cables.

Step 13

  • Unplug the motherboard cables.
  • Remove the motherboard screws (4 x M2 x 3mm).
Unplug the motherboard cables.Remove the motherboard screws (4 x M2 x 3mm).
Turn the motherboard over.

Step 14

  • Turn the motherboard over.
  • Unplug the keyboard cable.
  • Remove the motherboard.
Turn the motherboard over.Unplug the keyboard cable.
Remove the screws (2 x M2.5x2).

Step 15

  • Remove the screws (2 x M2.5x2).
  • Remove the mSATA SSD bracket.
Remove the screws (2 x M2.5x2).Remove the mSATA SSD bracket.
Remove the 24 keyboard screws (24 x M2x1.5mm).

Step 16

  • Remove the 24 keyboard screws (24 x M2x1.5mm).
  • Remove the Keyboard.
Remove the 24 keyboard screws (24 x M2x1.5mm).Remove the Keyboard.
