The Thin ThinkPad T470, a Self-Alleged Workhorse, No-Nonsense Business Laptop

For one of those quick and easy introductions, the Lenovo ThinkPad is an ultra-light business notebook. It’s not the lightest business notebook on the market, nor does it particularly fit in the category of the sleek and trendy. However, it does pack a punch for only weighing 2.9 pounds. Fit with both Intel graphics and CPU processor, let’s take a closer look at what this version of the ThinkPad is up against.

Kinda like the Dell XPS 13 9360, which starts at $799, is a very high performance notebook, and weighing in at 2.7 pounds, it’s easily compared to Lenovo’s ThinkPad T470; which is also geared towards business, while weighing nearly the same, and priced at $880. Sure, that’s still a moderate price, but this considered a budget-friendly business laptop, meaning it has a lot of the latest hardware and software options for the workforce. Actually, there’s next-to-nothing a business consumer would need for work that the T470 does not have on board.

As noted, there’s not much of a design factor here, nothing sleek and slim like some other Lenovo products are boasting these days (ahem, the Dell XPS series are all sleek and ultra thin, as well as the world’s first to feature InfinityEdge Display). But hey, physique doesn’t always win. There’s still this demand for the get-it-done, business and portability features that factor perfectly in that market niche. Measuring 13.25 x 9.15 x .79 inches, the slimmer chassis design makes for more of an easy access appeal, for repairs or the swapping out of keys in seconds. It features a simple charcoal color, soft-touch frame, rounded edges for carrying comfort. No flexing or bendability here. This particular model passed 12 different military durability checks, and can withstand humidity, temperature shock, vibration, and even mechanical shock. Along with physical durability, the ThinkPad T470 is set to connect a mouse, keyboard, monitor, or smartphone. It contains 2 USB 3.0 ports, a SmartCard reader, a USB Type-C/Thunderbolt 3, an SD card reader, Ethernet connector, HDMI connector, and 3.5mm audio jack.

Sometimes simple and efficient is the way to go, and these laptops offer strong, mainstream performance, excellent battery life (at 17 hours or more on a charge), and enough ports for any need. Lenovo has made quite the nice platform for itself in the laptop space. The ThinkPad family include quite the array of machines, from premiums to these newer thin and light ultrabooks; and even in the case of the ThinkPad T470, you find a mix of both of these attributes, but with a more affordable price tag.
