Installation and Removal Instructions
Dell Latitude D630 ATG Motherboard

Slide the battery down and lift out of the laptop.

Step 1

  • Slide the battery latches to the left and the right.
  • Slide the battery down and lift out of the laptop.

Separate the memory retaining clips until the memory stick lifts up.

Step 2

  • Unscrew the retaining screw and lift the door from the laptop.
  • Separate the memory retaining clips until the memory stick lifts up.
  • Remove the memory stick from the motherboard.

Eject the optical drive latch by pressing it in.

Step 3

  • Unscrew the 2mm x 5mm optical drive latch locking screw.
  • Eject the optical drive latch by pressing it in.
  • Slide the optical drive out of the laptop.

Slide the hard drive out of the laptop.

Step 4

  • Unscrew the (2) 3mm x 3mm hard drive screws.
  • Slide the hard drive out of the laptop.
Slide the hard drive out of the laptop. Unscrew the (2) 3mm x 3mm hard drive screws.
Unscrew the (2) 2.5mm x 5mm hinge screws on the back edge of the laptop.

Step 5

  • Unscrew the (2) 2.5mm x 5mm bottom hinge screws.
  • Unscrew the (2) 2.5mm x 5mm hinge screws on the back edge of the laptop.
  • Remove the (7) 2.5mm x 8mm base screws.
Unscrew the (2) 2.5mm x 5mm hinge screws on the back edge of the laptop. Remove the (7) 2.5mm x 8mm base screws. Unscrew the (2) 2.5mm x 5mm bottom hinge screws.
Unscrew the (4) motherboard port screws.

Step 6

  • Unscrew the (4) motherboard port screws.
Loosen the 2 non-removable PCI slot screws.

Step 7

  • Loosen the 2 non-removable PCI slot screws.
On the right side of the power button cover, use a flat head screw driver to lift and unsnap the power button cover.

Step 8

  • Open the laptop as wide as possible, approximately 180 degrees.
  • On the right side of the power button cover, use a flat head screw driver to lift and unsnap the power button cover.
  • Working from right to left, unsnap the power button cover and lift it from the laptop.
Carefully lift the keyboard up, flip it over, and rest it on the palm rest.

Step 9

  • Unscrew the (3) 2mm x 3mm screws.
  • Carefully lift the keyboard up, flip it over, and rest it on the palm rest.
  • Carefully lift the keyboard up, flip it over, and rest it on the palm rest.
Unplug the keyboard cable by lifting the blue ribbon straight up.

Step 10

  • Unlatch the keyboard cable retaining clip by pivoting the blue clip up.
  • Unplug the keyboard cable by lifting the blue ribbon straight up.

Remove the memory stick from the motherboard.

Step 11

  • Separate the memory retaining clips until the memory stick lifts up.
  • Remove the memory stick from the motherboard.
Press the clips, on the top and bottom side of the wireless WLAN card, to the left until the card pivots up.

Step 12

  • Unplug the wireless WLAN antenna cables.
  • Press the clips, on the top and bottom side of the wireless WLAN card, to the left until the card pivots up.
  • Remove the card from the motherboard.
Press the clips, on the top and bottom side of the wireless WLAN card, to the left until the card pivots up. Remove the card from the motherboard.
Press the clips, on the left and right side of the WWAN card, forward until the card pivots up.

Step 13

  • Disconnect the WWAN antenna cables.
  • Press the clips, on the left and right side of the WWAN card, forward until the card pivots up.
  • Remove the card from the motherboard.
Press the clips, on the left and right side of the WWAN card, forward until the card pivots up. Remove the card from the motherboard.
Remove the antenna cables and LCD cable from the routing channels.

Step 14

  • Unplug the LCD cable.
  • Remove the antenna cables and LCD cable from the routing channels.
  • Lift the LCD display assembly away from the laptop base.

Unplug the Bluetooth card.

Step 15

  • Press the Bluetooth clip back and slide the Bluetooth card away from the palm rest.
  • Unplug the Bluetooth card.
Unplug the Bluetooth card. Press the Bluetooth clip back and slide the Bluetooth card away from the palm rest.
Remove the (3) 2.5mm x 8mm palm rest screws.

Step 16

  • Remove the (3) 2.5mm x 8mm palm rest screws.
Unplug the palm rest. The cable is located under the left edge of the palm rest.

Step 17

  • Unplug the CMOS battery.
  • Unplug the palm rest. The cable is located under the left edge of the palm rest.
  • Lift the palm rest from the base.
Unplug the palm rest. The cable is located under the left edge of the palm rest. Lift the palm rest from the base.
Remove the heat sink from the motherboard.

Step 18

  • Loosen the 4 heat sink screws.
  • Remove the heat sink from the motherboard.
Lift the CPU out of the CPU socket.

Step 19

  • Turn the CPU locking screw counterclockwise 180 degrees to unlock the CPU.
  • Lift the CPU out of the CPU socket.
Installation note 2: Tighten the heatsink screws in the order listed on the heatsink.

Step 20

  • Installation note 1: Make sure to replace thermal compound or thermal pads on the CPU and heatsink.
  • Installation note 2: Tighten the heatsink screws in the order listed on the heatsink.

Unscrew the (4) 2mm x 3mm screws.

Step 21

  • Unplug the PCMCIA Cable.
  • Unscrew the (4) 2mm x 3mm screws.
  • Remove the PCMCIA assembly from the motherboard.
Unscrew the (4) 2mm x 3mm screws.Remove the PCMCIA assembly from the motherboard.
Remove the speaker from the base.

Step 22

  • Unplug the speaker cable.
  • Remove the speaker from the base.
Unplug the modem cable.

Step 23

  • Remove the 2mm x 3mm modem screw.
  • Unplug the modem cable.
  • Unplug the modem from the motherboard.
Unplug the modem cable. Unplug the modem from the motherboard.
Unscrew the (4) 2.5mm x 5mm motherboard screws.

Step 24

  • Unscrew the (4) 2.5mm x 5mm motherboard screws.
Unplug the main modem cable.

Step 25

  • Unplug the modem circuit board cable.
  • Unplug the main modem cable.
Unplug the main modem cable. Unplug the modem circuit board cable.
Lift the motherboard out of the laptop base.

Step 26

  • Unplug the fan cable.
  • Lift the motherboard out of the laptop base.
Remove the fan.

Step 27

  • Remove the fan screw.
  • Remove the fan.
