Amazon’s Latest Tablet, Fire HD 10, Featuring a Nice 10 Inch Display, Lighter Than iPad Air

AmazonFireHd10Amazon does a good job at making affordable tablets. Now, it’s another lovely Fire HD tablet that has been put in the bargain bin. After being a big hit over the holidays for the umpteenth time, Amazon pretty much knows that if it keeps the price of its tablets down, it has a chance to rival over Android to a good extent. Sure, the company’s generation of Fire tablets offer across the board bells and whistles, and can also range from super budget-friendly to a bit fancy. But the one we’re talking about today is the Fire HD 10, a pretty simple 10-incher, designed with entertainment in mind.

AmazonFireHd10-2The Amazon Fire HD 10, featuring a 10.1-inch display and measuring 7.7mm thick (that’s a mere .2mm thicker than the iPad Air), marks itself as the thinnest Amazon tablet with the largest display. It sports a 1280 x 1800 resolution at 149 pixels per inch (ppi). Further, Hot Hardware reports the HD display has a 16:10 aspect ratio, providing 22 percent more horizontal viewing than many current tablet rivals sporting a 4:3 aspect ratio. This makes video and movie watching roomier, and web browsing more comfortable for reading. The Fire HD 10 entertainment value is also amped up by Dolby Audio speakers, and both front (720p), and rear-facing (5MP) cameras.

AmazonFireHd10-1The tablet will sport a modest quad-core 1.3GHz MediaTek processor, PowerVR G6200 GPU, free cloud storage, up to 128GB of expandable storage (via microSD card slot), and either a 16GB model priced at $229.99, or a 32GB model for $259.99. It also includes an accelerometer and gyroscope, USB 2.0, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and up to 8 hours of battery life. The OS on the device will be the latest the Fire OS 5 from Amazon, dubbed “Bellini”, which is said “to offer the best entertainment experience on any tablet, with a new user interface, and deep integration with Amazon’s services”. Need something else to keep you busy? How about Amazon Underground in the box, which comes free with over $20,000 in apps, games, and in-app items.

With a perfectly ratioed display size for greater viewing area and angles, plus an ultra-thin design, I’d say you could stop right there and say yes to its $50 price tag. But wait, there’s more. The Fire HD 10 is actually in line to turn the heads of Apple Air lovers. Why? Because, according to Amazon, its device, which weighs less than the iPad Air, has been reported two times more durable than the iPad Air in tumble tests. So, it’s lighter and more tough than a prestigious Apple product, and costs a fraction of the price. Good to know. For a nice, everyday use type of product, the Fire HD 10 will easily meet your needs.
