Acer’s Latest Chromebook 11 is Plenty of PC for $179

AcerChromebook11The good and bad thing about Chromebooks, with the high-end Chromebook Pixel from Google being the exception, is their practicality. They are simple, yes, running on a web-only OS, and leaving out the fancy bells and whistles. But some people want a gorgeous display, or a touchscreen, or a plethora of connectivity ports. Well, you won’t always get that when picking out a Chromebook, and if that bothers you, then another notebook may be the way to go. But if you take into account the latest Chromebook from Acer (the first Chromebook 11 from the company was released just last year), the Chromebook 11, featuring a basic spec list but highly likable design, you may just start believing these machines were made “for both princes and paupers”.

AcerChromebook11-1As mentioned, you aren’t going to find really fancy anything on Acer’s Chromebook 11. What you will find is an incredibly nice price, $179, and a design that is reminiscent of higher-end devices. The 11.6-inch laptop features an aluminum alloy cover with textured crosshatching, and while the bottom is based of plastic, it “feels very solidly built” (The Verge). Having some added layers for solidarity never hurt anyone, especially the accident prone- this Chromebook can fall a good 2 feet without breaking in two, and withstand an incredible 132 pounds of pressure to its lid (Digital Trends). It weighs 2.42 pounds, measures .76 inches thick, and is a convertible-so it can be flipped all the way around to reach tent and tablet modes. It features a 1,366 x 768 resolution, but anything over 720p would warrant higher dollar signs (you heard the part where we mentioned this thing costs just $179, yes?). Plus, the Chromebook 11’s IPS display is an improved iteration, offering better viewing angles.

AcerChromebook11-2Other specs include a 3,220mAh battery with around 9 hours of life, an Intel Celeron N3150 processor, 2GB to 4GB of RAM, and 16 to 32GB of eMMC storage. There is an SD card reader, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, HDMI port, Bluetooth 4.0, and 2x2 MIMO 802.11ac Wi-Fi connectivity.

After being unveiled at CES last month, the Acer Chromebook 11 is expected to launch any day. Per usual, these super cheap and compact Chromebooks are suited for the student and on-the-go business lifestyle. The added perk of being extra durable only helps its case, not to mention Acer trimmed up the device just enough to give this new model more meaning. The spec list will be just enough for anyone who relies on their laptop to wiz around websites, watch videos, and type up word documents. Since a lot of folks fit this profile, its not doubt the Acer Chromebook 11 will do just fine out in the world.
