Xiaomi’s New Redmi Note 2 Phablet Is a Whole Lotta Hardware for $125

RedMiNote2-1We hear more and more about Xiaomi lately, probably because many of the Chinese company’s cheap products are now turning into flagships, yet Xiaomi devices have still not become available in America. If we could see the type of numbers Xiaomi is seeing in its homeland, Xiaomi would surely be a hit here. Just in the last year, the company sold 60,000 units of its Redmi 1 in only 13.9 seconds in China. You can safely say that Xiaomi has a knack for selling its products super fast. The latest trend is the long-rumored Redmi Note 2, a phablet flagship made to go up against the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. It isn’t quite as fancy as its main competitor, but it’s a whole lot of hardware for a mere $125.

Like what exactly? A 5.5-inch, 1080p Full HD display for one, running a an octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor (the same chip found in HTC’s One M9+, and benchmarking similar to Snapdragon’s 810, and Exynos’s 7420), sporting 2GB of RAM, and 16 or 32GB storage options. It also lives on a 3060mAh battery, has a 13mp rear-facing camera and 5mp front-facing camera, and comes running Xiaomi’s very own MiUI 7 OS (Techno Buffalo).

RedMiNote2The Redmi Note 2 has an external look similar to that of the iPhone 5C and Xiaomi Mi4i, meaning it sports a plastic shell cover in a variety of color options. If you’re not picky about that “all aluminum” type of look then this phablet is going to fit your personality. It is, after all, a budget phone, as the company usually provides.

The phone/tablet is already getting great responses, selling over 800,000 phones in 12 hours (in China). But for most of us who are just hearing of the new device, it’s important we know what it is willing to offer, especially if Xiaomi is ever going to make a huge presence in America. If it does, competing companies will have to be up for the challenge. Prices begin at just 799 yuan ($125), a price tag many Americans would love to see if we had the option.
