Installation and Removal Instructions
Inspiron 17 (5749) Heatsink / Fan

Lift the battery out of the laptop.

Step 1

  • Slide the latches over to unlock the battery.
  • Lift the battery out of the laptop.

Slide the optical drive out of the laptop.

Step 2

  • Remove the screw.
  • Slide the optical drive out of the laptop.

Carefully pry up the access door.

Step 3

  • Remove the screws.

Press the clip over to release the wireless card.

Step 4

  • Unplug the antenna cables.
  • Press the clip over to release the wireless card.
  • Remove the wireless card.

Slide the hard drive to the left and lift it out of the laptop.

Step 5

  • Remove the screw.
  • Slide the hard drive to the left and lift it out of the laptop.

Turn the laptop over and open it up.

Step 6

  • Remove the bottom screws.
  • Turn the laptop over and open it up.
Press in the keyboard latches and loosen the keyboard.

Unplug the keyboard cable.

Step 8

  • Turn the keyboard over.
  • Unplug the keyboard cable.

  • Remove the top screws.
  • Unplug the cables.

Carefully separate and remove the palmrest.

Step 10

  • Carefully separate and remove the palmrest.
Remove the circuit board.

Step 11

  • Remove the screw.
  • Remove the circuit board.

  • Remove the screws.

Unplug the speaker cable.

Step 13

  • Unplug the USB SD I/O circuit board cable.
  • Unplug the speaker cable.

Unplug the display cable.

Step 14

  • Loosen the tape.
  • Unplug the display cable.
  • Peel up the display cable.

Unplug the DC jack.

Step 15

  • Unplug the DC jack.
Remove the motherboard.

Step 16

  • Remove the screws.
  • Remove the motherboard.

Loosen the screws.

Step 17

  • Unplug the fan cable.
  • Loosen the screws.
  • Remove the heatsink.
