World’s 1st 441 PPI Full HD 1,080p Smartphone – Oppo Find 5: Just Say El-Wow-Zoid

Who shrunk my HD TV?

On May 28, 2012 LG announced a 5-inch smartphone display, calling it the "highest resolution mobile panel to date", providing full HD content equal to 1,920 x 1,080 resolution found on TVs and very high quality laptop displays; and that's just the beginning of the wow-factor. As of the end of September 2012, no smartphone using that amazing display has actually reached the hands of consumers. That will probably happen before the end of this year.
Raising the drool-factor to new highs, that resolution on a 5-inch screen produces 440 PPI (Pixels Per Inch). To put that in perspective, that pixel density provides a 35% improvement over Apple's so-called "retina display".

"But Wait, There's More"

As infomercials are so apt to say: "But wait, there's more". In the case of the new LG display there really is more: much more. IPS (In-Plane Switching) is a display technology that typically accompanies only the best laptop display screens. The latest, make 'em say wow version of IPS is known as AH-IPS (Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching), and the new  5-inch LG smartphone display also brings that to the party.

Revving Geek Hearts to New RPM Highs

Just the 440 PPI all by its "little-old-lonesome" is enough to make the LG display drool-worthy; but the AH-IPS technology delivers brighter light transmission with less power consumption, making it well suited for use outdoors. Additionally, AH-IPS panels provide wide viewing angles, rapid response to touch inputs, and excellent accuracy in expression of color palettes. A 5-inch display screen puts a phone at the high end of smartphone territory, or at the beginning of a screen-size typically associated with a category known as phablets.

World's Thinnest Smartphone

The Chinese company Oppo, released the Oppo Finder earlier this year, claiming the title of "world's thinnest smartphone" with a thickness of only 6.65mm at its thinnest point, and 7.1mm at its thickest part. The iPhone 5 measures 7.6mm thick.

Oppo-Ration Apple Slicer

Oppo now says it will bring the Oppo Find 5 to consumers with a 5-inch, 1,080p, 441 PPI display, at a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080, in that same 6.65mm form-factor. It seems quite likely the Oppo Find 5 display will be made by LG. Apple should be wincing right about now, and not only because of the display. The other Oppo Find 5 specifications could slice Apple to the core.

Full specifications, pricing, and a release date have not been announced.
