  1. I have an M5040 and I have a problem — there is no CPU locking screw or any clear indication on how to remove the CPU.

I have an Inspiron 15 N5050 and I am trying to upgrade the CPU. The 4th heatsink screw has been giving me some trouble and I can’t get it off with a screwdriver. I would pry it out but I don’t want to break something on the motherboard. Any tips for getting it off?

    • You have to use a lot of downward pressure, so the screwdriver doesn’t slip, and hope for the best. It’s not often that something actually breaks when trying to loosen a screw. Just make sure the screwdriver doesn’t slip.
